Thirsty Sword Lesbians
Kickstarter campaign complete. 8152 backers brought this game to life!
Love, swords, and adventure.
Thirsty Sword Lesbians battle the Lady of Chains when her enforcers march down from the frosty north. They rocket through the stars to safeguard diplomats ending a generations-old conflict. Even when swords are crossed, they seek peace with their opponent—and sometimes connect more deeply than anyone expects.
A sword duel can end in kissing, a witch can gain her power by helping others find love, and an entire campaign can be built around wandering matchmakers flying from system to system.
Thirsty Sword Lesbians is a roleplaying game for telling queer stories with friends. If you love angsty disaster lesbians with swords, you have come to the right place.
In this book, you’ll find:
- Flirting, sword-fighting, and zingers in a system designed for both narrative drama and player safety.
- An innovative take on the Powered by the Apocalypse family of games.
- Nine character types, each focusing on a particular emotional conflict: Beast, Chosen, Devoted, Infamous, Nature Witch, Scoundrel, Seeker, Spooky Witch, and Trickster.
- Guidance and support for running the game, including how to make appealing adversaries, set the tone, pace the game, and structure play.
- Tools to create your own settings and stories, alongside a dozen pre-written options including the cyberpunk Neon City 2099, steamfunk poets battling oppression as Les Violettes Dangereuses, laser swords and intrigue in the Starcross Galaxy, and more.
- World building worksheet for custom scenarios and starting scenario seeds to play with: Best Day of Their Lives, The Constellation Festival, Gal Paladins, and Sword Lesbians of the Three Houses
- Variant rules to highlight different identities, emotional connections, and setting elements.
- Strategies to adapt any setting where swords cross and hearts race for Thirsty Sword Lesbians.

I get an incredibly Revolutionary Girl Utena vibe off of reading about this one. (And I hope there’ll be a better name when this gets released …)
Just wanted to say, reading through the playtest, this is fantastic and I’m really looking forward to running it with some friends. I love how it’s so accessible to brand new TTRPG players, and scaleable to one-offs. It can be tricky getting folks together, this helps with that a lot.
I’ve never felt more valid or called out in a game text, and the psychological safety systems are a huge win, as an autistic nonbinary person with some past junk.
These make running a game much much more relaxing knowing the systems and emotional group processing are part of the experience. Love it all, can’t wait to give you all my money once this is out!
Will you be able to buy this after the kickstarter is done? Just asking to make sure, money is tight right now but I’d love to play this.
Hi Tam, yep, it will be available through all our normal channels (online, retail, roll20, etc).
Absolutely! Like all the stuff we kickstart, we will release this to the gamestore distribution network (for them to sell to FLGSes everywhere, at least, those that order it) and put it up for sale on our webstore (and prior to that, up for preorder on BackerKit) after the backers have been shipped theirs.
Thanks! Excited to try it out then, and happy to see the massive support you got on kickstarter :3
I’m a backer for the kickstarter, and I’ve already run a few oneshots using the draft we get. My friends and I love it so much we’re doing a campaign! This is SUCH a fun and accessible game.
I wish that I had known about this game, it would have been great for a B-day gift to my dm/gm friend.
If I sign up for the newsletter with Evil Hat, will I get updates about this game as well, or is there another place I need to sign up for updates on the progress of the game?
We will announce on the newsletter when we open up preorders. Probably sometime in February! Mailing list signup: http://evilh.at/1TnZya5
Cool, Thanks!
