    The Coiled Serpents
Six children (or, in one case, a young jellyfish) living in or around the Living Storm, an enormous, ancient nebula of rain and lightning!

Marita Broach (Prophesied to Defeat the Living Storm)
Born to a prophecy, the Stormkeeper is destined to keep the Living Storm away from our world. She will stand atop the highest peaks, shake her fist at the lightning and spit upon the thunder. She will keep our people safe, dry and protected.

    • Despite prophecy, the storm comes anyway and Mayor Gaina demands Marita pay for not fulfilling the promise of protection.

    • Ben Talderly, an old man and Marita's most devout believer, had his house flooded by the storm's waters. He lost everything.

Rico Lloyd (Scavenger of the Storm's Debris)
We've got the best skyfarm this side of the blue, lemme tell ya. All those other worlds are just big balls of dirt that send out ships to the storm. We've got it smarter, our whole world is a bunch of little asteroids netted together with ropes and wooden beams. When the storm spirits send their beast through here every year, our nets and harpoons capture the junk that gets caught up in its winds. It's always a good harvest.

    • Despite pleas and offerings, the storm spirits have been uncooperative. No storm has come through in over three years.

    • The skyfarmers are running out of materials to replace the ropes and beams. The world is literally falling apart.

    Foster Cicali (Renegade Circus Acrobat)
I'm flying high above the crowds. This is always my favorite part, when I leave one trapeze and approach another. To the rubes, it's only a blink, a drum roll and a clashing of a cymbal. But to me it's forever, that little moment where I'm totally free from the circus life. Always keeping just one step away from the storm and the xenophobic lightning tribes that control it. In that second between trapeze, I can just fly away free like a pilgrim. Above clouds, not crowds.

    • The cleric of the lightning tribes declares that the circus is immortal and calls all the lightning tribes to a holy war.

    • A tendril of the storm reaches out across the heavens and separate's foster's skyship from the rest of the caravan.

Magnolia (Aspiring Steward of the Living Storm)
The lightning tribes are heralds of the living storm, guiding the great beast towards our enemies. It is our divine mandate to rein in this creature, making sure it only harms those who deserve harming. Some day, I will be allowed to unleash the storm myself and witness the true power of our tribe with my own eyes.

    • Magnolia discovers that clerics have been guiding the storm towards innocent worlds, not just enemies of the tribes.

    • Magnolia sneaks out into the heart of the storm and sees a bizarre jellyfish-like creature living there. The storm isn't a ravenous beast, it's someone's home.

Olin Devis (Spy in the Domina's Court)
Everyone underestimates what a child understands. The courtiers never hold their tongue when I'm in the room, even though I'm the Domina's daughter. As spy and investigator for the royal family, I have single-handedly prevented five coups, prevented two wars and halted those reformist bastards' obscene plans. They still have no idea who could be leaking information.

    • The courtiers are conspiring with the clerics to bring the full wrath of the living storm to Olin's world and using the chaos as a cover for a coup.

    • The Domina is secretly paying the lightning tribe to destroy neighboring fiefdoms to control their precious lands.

Ok Quass (Jellyfish living inside the Storm)
No one knows we're here and we must keep it that way. The solids all think the living storm is just some great beast, migrating through the sky and wreaking havoc on innocent words. Lucy Ferrous is a brilliant winged warrior. Hardened as her elemental namesake, she's the youngest soldier to ever achieve the rank of Captain of the Host. She protects Argentum, the holiest of cities, the last silvery line of defense against the beasts who lurk beyond the edge of darkness.

    Hib Nin (Swindling faith healer)
Hib Nin is following in his father's footsteps, going from town to town claiming to heal his congregant's maladies and discomforts with the power of their devotion. Of course, their monetary devotion doesn't hurt things either.

    • An irate congregant claims to have never received the allergy relief Hib promised. "Hib Nin is a fraud!" he shouts during a ceremony.

    • Even though it's quite obvious Hib has no healing powers, those needy bastards will not. stop. following.

Which trouble does Hib resolve, A or B?

    Sherman (God of Bad Smells)
Being the youngest sibling in a large family isn't that great. It's even harder when your family is a pantheon of gods assigned to govern different aspects of reality. All the cool aspects like Love, War, and Wine have all been taken by the older kids. Meanwhile, poor Sherman is stuck being the god of bad smells.

    • The Shermanic Order aren't enforcing the rule that mortals should say "There ya go, Sherman!" whenever they make bad smells. Consequently, Sherman is losing what little godly power he has to begin with.

    • Coyote, the trickster god, is trying to convince Sherman to give up his station. After all, nothing could be worse than being god of bad smells, right?

Which trouble does Sherman resolve, A or B?

Charys Helion (Shepherd of an Aging Sun)
Charys is one of the Shepherd-in-training on the Solar Barge. This ship has guided Ra, the ancient, withered and only remaining star of the cosmos, in his orbit around Abydos for the last three hundred thousand dynasties. Into the underworld and out. Every day. Without fail.

    • Spectres of the underworld put Charys to sleep when during his first assignment to watch over the Ra. When he wakes up, Ra is missing.

    • All the other stars of the cosmos were eaten by the Skoll, the wolf. Howls have been heard in the distance recently, how will Charys and the other Shepherds keep this hungry beast at bay?

Which trouble does Charys resolve, A or B?

To maintain a collaborative spirit as I write the beta test document for Do, I'm asking you to help me decide the fates of all these characters.

Just pick which trouble to resolve, A or B. Feel free to suggest how that trouble gets resolved, too. :)

    The Jade Foxes
Three characters with "ecology" as a shared theme.

Daniela Freitas (Princess of a desert planet)
    Background
Temple's light is not so kind to the vast Karisian deserts. It weighs upon your shoulders like a hot boulder, pressing and burning with merciless indifference. It takes an equally heavy hand to rule a people born and bound to such a world. My hand. Princess Daniela of the House Freitas, heir to the molten throne, ruler of all sand and flame.

    Troubles
    • Daniela's younger brother drew mustaches over all the sacred statues, but only Daniela knows. House Tyrol seeks proof so they can lead the lesser houses in rebellion.
    • King Karis, disappointed with his daughter's scheming ways, wants perhaps decides she should be brought low for the good of the Karisian desert people.

Which trouble does Daniela resolve, A or B?

    Malachi (Farmboy raising chimeric livestock)
    Background
Can't be anything more satisfying than life on ma and pa's splice farm. Feeding the chicken-hogs in the morning, harvesting this year's wheat-corn crop in the afternoon, relaxing at the end of a long day with a cool glass of orange-ade. "Malachi," ma says. "You gotta get outta here some day." But where else would I ever want to be?

    Troubles
    • Ma is secretly a princess fighting the royal family's unethical splicing. It's wrong to splice animals for war!
    • Pa wants to sell the farm and go back to his old life in the city.

Which trouble does Malachi resolve, A or B?

Gunnwalh (A plant-creature with a telepathic connection to her planet)
    Background
Gunnwalh is a giant, tangled sphere of writhing vines and rustling leaves. Gunnwalh are the people living amongst the vines. These are literally the fruit of this world, each one carrying a "seed" of the world's soul. Gunnwalh is a cluster of flowers and leaves collected into a vaguely feminine form. Like the rest of her people, she cares for her world's delicate ecosystem and happily absorbed the temple's light each day.

    Troubles
    • A harsh spore falls upon the world, searing long tracks into the foliage and telepathically screaming in rage.
    • The birdstorm, a migratory flock that travels across the worlds, is six months late this year.

Which trouble does Gunnwalh resolve, A or B?
