Our Brick & Mortar PDF Guarantee
If you buy a physical book of ours from a real, brick & mortar store at full price, we’ll give you the PDF. Period.
It’s as simple as that. We want to support local gaming stores the best we can, and we don’t want our fans to feel they have to choose between loving us (by buying a Print+PDF bundle at IPR) or loving their local game store. Why not get both?
With the Evil Hat Retailer PDF Guarantee, you don’t have to choose! But we WILL need you to confirm that you’ve purchased the book. Drop us a line (or have your FLGS do it!) at feedback AT evilhat DOT com and show us your proof of purchase. Scanned purchase receipts are the best way to do this, but we’ll take the word of your FLGS as equivalent. And while you’re at it, tell us where you bought the book, and make sure they know that the Evil Hat Retailer PDF Guarantee sealed the deal!
We are also a part of the Bits & Mortar publisher coalition. Head on over to that site and find out who else offers free PDFs together with the books you buy from your FLGS!
can u get the dresden books on cd to download onto a computer ?
No, but you can buy them in electronic format and just download them directly from the purchasing website.
Probably a silly question, but what about if you got the physical book from another online bookstore? (In this case BargainBookStores.com)? I assume in this case you are out of luck, and would need to purchase the PDF separately, but I figured it can’t hurt to ask :-).
Technically it depends on how much of a discount you got it at (we’re trying to support brick & mortar stores that can’t afford to do the competitively harmful deep discounting).
Awesome!
This is the best. This is what all games should do! This is the best.
This is awesome. I wish this had been in place when I picked up my Dresden Files books. I will keep it in mind for when I pick up my copy of Fate Core though. 🙂
It was in place. We’ve been doing this since 2006. Take advantage of it!
Is the Fate Core book available as a PDF? If so, where can I buy it?
Has not been released yet. Should be by July. Once it is, the PDF will be “pay what you like”, including free.
I purchased my copy of “Don’t Rest Your Head” years ago, right after it first came out. I don’t know if the store would still have record of this, but I do remember which store I got it from. Is there a chance I could be eligible for the PDF copy?
Yes; I’ll email you with details.
A few friends and I decided to get the rulebooks this past weekend. Our local game store only had one copy of the book, so two of us purchased the book and then waited for it to come in from the stores supplier.
When our local store does this the people having to wait on something ordered in get a 10% discount (this is a standing rule at the store).
Your line at the top mentions paying full price for the book, but would this situation be ok to still get access to the PDF?
Tim
Minor store discounts don’t count as a discounted book—that proviso is specifically about DEEP discounting practices, usually online, where books are discounted by as much as 30-40%. So, yeah, you’d be eligible.
This is a fantastic program. Thank you so much for “getting it”. I will talk to my FLGS tonight about ordering some of your books. What suppliers do you work with now?
ACD, Alliance, PHD, Esdevium, Lion Rampant, and Ulisses Spiele.
Done! I ordered 3 books through my FLGS. I’ll be forwarding my receipt when the books arrive. Thanks again. 🙂
Is the PDF version distributed the same way that the Kickstarter rewards were? I ask because I’m getting all the PDFs as a Backer, but also bought the Core and Toolkit from my FLGS. Since I have those on my DriveThruRPG account already I won’t bother sending in the receipts if it’s the same thing.
Thanks.
Yep, it’s the same version either way.
I have just bought both Dresden Files game books at my locale game and comic shop but they don’t print out itemized receipts, just charge card receipts telling how much was spent not what it was spent on, would a photo copy of that work?
Email us a pic of you with the books at feedback@evilhat.com and we’ll get you squared.
I bought the Your world book at San Diego comic-con and have no receipt as I paid cash for it, is there any way I can get this PDF deal as well?
Same answer as I gave Daniel J, above. 🙂
Cool thanks Fred will send those post haste
I just wanted you guys to know that I work at a bookstore that has been expanding into tabletop games since last March. We’ve actually sold a number of FATE books (including Dresden and FAE) and this is one of the major selling points for many of our customers. Being able to get a second copy like this, for free is amazing. Thank you guys so much!
I just sent in my first submission using this program. What a great idea. Thanks Evil Hat Games! 🙂
You guys are geniuses. I am constantly amazed at the many brilliant aspects of your business model.
Hello I sent a PDF Guarantee e-mail on 2/23/14 and have not received a reply . I was wondering if it due to back log or if I sent it to the wrong address (feedback@evilhat.com)
This is the greatest thing I have ever heard!
Just another reason to love this amazing company!
I wish I knew about this before now! I have had the Dresden books for a couple years, but don’t have proof of purchase. The store I bought them at (Between Books in DE) was an awesome store, but closed up last year. I am in the process of relocating and my books are in storage until I get settled in a more permanent place, and I rely on PDFs to feed my hobby hungers. I don’t have cable, but do have Amazon Prime and have been watching the Dresden TV show (love love love Murphy) and am itching for the books. Oh well . . . I’ll stop rambling. Keep up the good work!
When you can get a picture of you with the books over to us, we’ll get you the PDF. Receipt isn’t required, just preferred.
Good guy Fred.
Sweet! I may swing by the storage next week and fondle my treasures.
I’m assuming this applies to books I bought from you guys at Gencon? 🙂 I don’t have the receipt around anymore, but I bought the Dresden Files books from you at Gencon when they were first released and I’d love the pdfs. I can take a picture of myself with the books along with my Dresden fate dice 🙂
It does, and that’s how you’d do it.
I suppose I did this in reverse order, but I am only now seeing this thread. I got the PDFs for Fate Core, FAE, and the Toolkit from drivethrurpg at some point after having seen fate-srd.com. It was only a matter of a couple of days before I knew I had to have the physical books in my collection; there is, after all (and especially for an old schooler like myself), no substitute for flipping through the pages of a hard copy, despite the awesome utility of electronic documents.
Now I have the best of both worlds, and also have been able to show support not only for one of the most phenomenally brilliant RPGs of all time but also throw some love to Rogues Gallery Round Rock, one of the best FLGS establishments I have had the pleasure to visit.
Though you spent a bit more doing that that way, your support is very appreciated. Thanks Carl!
I have just heard this on an old version of Happy Jacks and wish I had known when i bought our world and your world as then I may have kept my receipt. This is sad sad for me.
The PDF guarantee is fantastic.
I bought the both the DFRPG books from one of the vendors at a convention a few months ago. Could I still get the PDF’s? All I have are my proofs’ of purchase.
Yup. Email us at feedback@evilhat.com with pics of you & the books.
Hi guys,
I just bought the fate core the fate toolkit and fate light books at a shop while visiting my parents. The shop however just gives you a generic receipt that shows only your total, is there another way I can prove I bough these books and get the PDFs?
Like I said above: Yup. Email us at feedback@evilhat.com with pics of you & the books.
I’m so glad I found out about this program, I was ready to buy online, but now I’ll by from my local shop- The Soldiery.
So if I go buy the new Monster of the Week from my local store, even though they’re not part of click-and-mortar, I’ll get the PDF from you if I send you a pic of my receipt?
That’s amazing! I knew about C&M participants, but this general policy is news to me even after all this time.
This policy predates the existence of Bits & Mortar, in fact, and is part of the reason we helped found Bits & Mortar. 🙂
I see you’ve been working with a lot of people to get them in on this great program, and was hoping you might with me too. I bought the DFRPG books a couple years back, and no longer have the receipt. Unfortunately, the books themselves are in a different state, making me unable to selfie with them. I can provide the name of the store, but naught else. I’ll understand if that’s pushing it too much.
That does kinda go outside of the scope. I like to trust folks at their word, but as precedents go it’s (revenue-wise) a dangerous precedent to set.
