For the Queen
The land you live in has been at war for as long as any of you have been alive.
The Queen has decided to undertake a long and perilous journey to broker an alliance with a distant power.
The Queen has chosen you, and only you, to be her retinue, and accompany her on this journey.
She chose you because she knows that you love her.
A tale of love.
A land in peril.
For the Queen is a card-based story-building game that you and up to five other players can begin playing in minutes. Choose your queen from among fourteen gorgeously varied illustrations—or start from scratch—and use the prompt cards to collaboratively tell a story of love, betrayal, doubt, and devotion.
In this game, you’ll find:
- Clear instructions to start any group playing in minutes.
- 14 beautifully rendered queens by a diverse group of artists to inspire your stories.
- 46 prompt cards that will help you develop your world, your characters, and their relationships to each other and the Queen.
- An X-Card to remove content you don’t want in the game.
- Tragedy, heartbreak, betrayal, love, doubt, and unwavering dedication.
The queen is under attack. Will you defend her?

I can’t wait to the artwork for the cards.
Wow! I can’t wait for more information about this game! It looks fantastic.
This sounds like a lot of fun. It doesn’t say if it can be played cooperative or if it’s a competitive game. My group likes cooperative games best.
For the Queen is very collaborative indeed! I think you’ll love it!
It’s a story-telling game that’s adjacent to a roleplaying game. You could probably angle your character to be competitive with the others if you wanted, but as *players* you’re building the story together, after all.
This is my favorite RPG / story game of the year. Hands down.
I’ve played this game upwards of 20 times now and I can say, with quite a bit of confidence, that whether or not the story becomes competitive and filled with intrigue, or becomes a cooperative journey (either for or against the queen) is almost entirely up to the players and how they answer the prompts. The game has A LOT of flexibility when it comes to tone.
Also, do not be fooled! This game can be played very well with just 3 people, and groups of over a dozen as party game!
I’ve written some of my thoughts about this game here, if you are interested (without any spoilers): http://www.supernovembergames.com/tomes-of-tomes/2018/10/25/do-you-even-for-the-queen. Also the game can’t be spoiled. Like I said, I’ve played it a huge number of times, and it’s never gotten old.
We played this at PAX South this month and it was the best game we tried, hands down. Can’t wait for release.
So great to hear. Thank you Katherine!
Sounds cool. Can’t wait to try it.
Are there any plans for a pdf version?
It’s a deck of cards, so, not really.
However, you can get access to a digital version on the Roll20 Marketplace here: https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/module/156/for-the-queen
As you already know, lots of card games have a PDF printable version. Cards against humanity, Secret Hitler, even Evil Hat has a printable version of The Deck Of Fate. I’m just asking because I live in Canada and I’m willing to pay for a pdf version because sometimes it takes more time and it’s more difficult to get my hands on certain products.
Are there any plans for international distribution of the physical copies? I’m in the UK but it looks like you don’t do international shipping- so I’m wondering if there’ll be anywhere I can get hold of this?
Hi R, yes, we’ll be sending it to our international distributors (you can find them here: https://www.evilhat.com/home/for-retailers/).
Is there a mailing list for the release of the physical game?
If I was looking to sleeve the cards, what size are they? I usually get Fantasy Flight Sleeves.
Is there a pdf of the rules? I really like to read the rulebook before I purchase a game, or just to have as an extra set of rules around the table.
The rules are deployed on cards and kept in a common space on the table — there’s no need to have an extra set of rules around the table. Also as this is a deck-of-cards product, a PDF version doesn’t really make sense.
Bought this to play with my kids. They adore it! First thing they want to do every morning. Currently our ‘treat’ instead of television. Needless to say a great success.
How do I join/ play?! Thanks
You can pick up a physical copy at your FLGS (if they are open) or IPR (https://www.indiepressrevolution.com/xcart/For-the-Queen.html)
You can also play on Roll20 (https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/module/140/for-the-queen)
This game looks great, I just watched the Roll20 playthrough.
Is this available to people in the UK yet, directly or through retail?
It’s been available through retail (specialty game stores like Leisure Games) for a number of months now, yes. 🙂
