Yeah!!
I will be first to order this when it’s out in book form.
This is something that should have been either released with the core system already or included within the core book, I am new to this system and have had a real devil of a time creating or figuring out how to do things in this system, that I have just given up trying anymore. The core system doesn’t have even a sample setting included which would have been nice as well for newbies, if you’re trying to promote a new system you really need to make it user friendly for newbies not just the old players and a toolkit is one of them.
All of the examples occur within the same setting. The “Extras” chapter gives plenty of advice and examples on how to extend it. We didn’t want to make Fate Core any thicker than it is to squeeze in more stuff when that stuff was optional; that’s what THIS book is for. 🙂
This will make it easier for me to get a better feel for the game and maybe some direction. I am hoping that the physical artifact will be up to the same publishing standards that we get the physical Fate Core book.
Sorry but it still seems to be short on allot of things to get started easy for a newcomer to FATE. My group has yet been able to sit down and use it due to all the pre-creation stuff we would have to come up with such as spells or psionics and equipment, etc. There just isn’t enough to go on, I mean my brother wanted to run a Super-hero type X-Men thing like game but all the powers he was going to make up would span a great deal of time before it was able to,so he just decided to forget the whole thing, he didn’t want to hand wave everything as that was cheezy to him.
So he said he would wait until FATE had a complete rule book before trying again or use another system.
Sorry your first experience with Fate didn’t work out. There are some great resources out there for learning the system and finding examples of how people have handled things like super powers, psionics, gear, etc.

In print:
Dresden Files RPG – An incarnation (albeit older than Fate Core) of Fate specifically developed around an Urban Magic setting (specifically Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files).
ICONS – A super hero game powered by Fate.
Fate Worlds (coming soon) Wild Blue setting – Rules for a super hero western setting where you can see examples of super powers.
I’ve seen Dresden, pretty expensive game, and requires 2 books, so doubly expensive. We will have to look at the podcasts maybe they will help out a bit and the Google+ site, although the FATE Worlds sounds like what we need, too bad its another book not out yet. uuugh.
Same printer, same quality.
The Dresden Files only requires one book (Your Story). The second is optional if you want to roll your own monsters, etc.
The Worlds books are already available to the Fate Core kickstarter backers, and will be in print come November.
Is there a hard date for the release of the FATE System Toolkit? I am holding off on a new campaign until I get my hands on it. Thanks!
Early November, but when in November will depend on how fast we can get the ship-out to the backers, who deserve to get theirs first.
A preorder will likely show up sometime in the next month.
I would have backed this stuff if I new about it. I never know about these Kickstarters (the good ones) until they’re already over with and backed, I never get in on the action.
Are there any plans to eventually release this under CC/OGL?
Eventually? No, not eventually… because we already did a few weeks ago. 😉
Find it over at http://www.faterpg.com/licensing/
Oh hey! For some reason I thought only Core and Accelerated has been opened.
Awesome.
It took us several months to get to where we could open up the Toolkit too. 🙂
Hey there!
I already pre-ordered this gem here in Germany.
How’s the work going so far?
Will you manage to release it as stated?
Q4 2013 – aka this month? 🙂
Keep up the good work and happy holidays (in advance)!
Hi Peabody,
Yep, Toolkit is in strores and distributors warehouses and shipping now. If you’ve pre-ordered, you should have it soon.
Am I correct in understanding that oes anyone have the Fate Systems Toolkit (the purple book) in pdf format?
My understanding is that the FATE Systems Toolkit .pdf is supposed to be included with the cost of the print book?
I did pay for and receive the print book (it’s beautiful, btw…love the hardcover!), though I don’t know how to get access to the .pdf without paying *again.* I’ve been unable to find a download of the .pdf of the Toolkit without incurring an additional charge. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Egads! That preceding post makes me look downright illiterate!
The first line is supposed to read, “Am I correct in understanding that the FATE Systems Toolkit print book is supposed to be included with the cost of the print book?”
Dreadful computers!
