Fate of Cthulhu
The stars are right for Great Cthulhu’s return. It’s up to you to make them wrong again!
The Great Old Ones reach out from the future and into their past—our present—corrupting the timeline such that events and individuals turn towards the apocalyptic and lead to their inevitable rise. A small and battered resistance effort mounted by time-travelers and present-day heroes stands in their way.
You are those one-way travelers from a dark future and their crucial allies from the present day, working together to save the human race from looming apocalypse. Armed with foreknowledge of Judgment Day, you must succeed at a series of vital missions aimed at restoring hope to the future.
Can you defeat the vast unknowable evils of the Great Old Ones before you become a monster yourself? Find out in Fate of Cthulhu!
Fate of Cthulhu is a stand-alone game powered by the Fate Core System. No other books are needed to play. In this game, you’ll find:
- Corruption mechanics that show how close your heroes are coming to the monsters they fight, and the monstrous abilities they gain!
- Five detailed example timelines plus rules for running them and making your own.
- A system for tracking key events leading up to the apocalypse that the players change through their actions and choices during play, including support for ripple effects and time paradoxes.
- Modifications to stress and concession rules, including support for heroic last stands that sacrifice a character but help turn the timeline towards a better outcome.
- A rituals and spells system that offers great power at a cost, treating spells as secrets of arcane Elder technology that must be sought out in play.
The apocalypse is coming. It’s time to punch it in the face or die trying in Fate of Cthulhu!

What a demons is a sensitivity consultant?
Mendez has a nice short explanation here: https://jamesmendezhodes.com/sensitivity
Are the stretch goal timelines really only going to be exclusive to the PDF? That’s such a shame for me and my game group, as we definitely prefer using the psychical copies over PDFs. 🙁
Hi Bryan, depending on how many of the stretch goals are hit, there may be a scenario where printing them makes sense, but we know we can’t include them in the core book (as that would delay our delivery by and unhealthy amount) so we have to see if enough of them are funded to justify creating a print compilation. Unfortunately there is not way to know that right now, so we’re offering what we know we can produce, which is a print copy of the core book and PDF supplements. We’re certainly keeping our minds open though, to more book possibilities. =)
I may have missed this. It said over today so maybe they met BY today or something? Anyway I couldnt find teh actual place you click to pay for the kickstarter. I couldnt find it yesterday either. ??
I’m afraid you did miss it. It concluded at 3:30pm eastern time today. Was findable via a search for “Fate of Cthulhu” on kickstarter.com at least — sorry you didn’t find a link wherever you were looking.
Since we mentioned it twice on our mailing list over the past month you may want to sign up for that. Here’s the signup link: http://evilh.at/1TnZya5
Several weeks from now we’ll launch a BackerKit for the game and will make it possible to preorder the game there. Additional digital rewards, once completed, will also be made available for sale, but that’s likely next year.
Hi I’ve just found out about this game & would love to pre-order it but the form only allows you to specify the US as an address. I’m in Australia. Is this an oversight or are you not shipping international?
Hi Dana, it hasn’t come out yet (due in December) but if you’d like to pre-order it Leisure Games has set up this page to collect folks’s email so they can contact you when the pre-order (with international shipping) goes live.
Sean
Actually Sean, since Dana is in Australia, the better point of order is Aetherworks. They distribute and sell our games in Australia, and should have copies of Fate of Cthulhu when it is released. (We haven’t shipped internationally for years.)
Even better!
Very cool! My wife’s son and I really enjoyed playing this, pozzed or not!
I would say in before the chuds but looks like they are already showing up. In any event it looks interesting. Playing as a hero in a sort of Lovecraftian setting rather than another hapless victim or investigator.
