Dresden Files Cooperative Card Game
Play Harry Dresden and his friends as they take on the cases from the bestselling Dresden Files novels in the ultimate what-if scenario—what if Harry was on the scene with allies who weren’t there in the original story? The core game includes Harry, Murphy, Susan, Michael, and the Alphas and plays through the first five novels as well as Side Jobs, a random scenario generator based on the short story collection of the same name. Designs are already well underway for expansions featuring more series characters and more novels.

Already in the works, Matt. The version that showed up on Steam is also coming to iOS and Android, it’s just that the mobile platforms presented a few extra challenges that the Hidden Achievement folks have to work through fixing first. Stay tuned!
Can game producers plz plz plz consider making card segments in the trays/boxes are slightly (3mm?) wider than you normally do? Because lots of us gamers like to sleeve our cards for games to help protect them and would like to be able to slot them in the box still.
Sleeves that have less of a “lip” past the card will work best (there are some varieties out there that do this). We had to balance many factors there, including how much the cardblocks can travel around in the tray during transit, with an eye on minimizing transit damage. We’ve seen several folks use the trays with sleeved cards without issue (you may want to look at rotating how you put them in the tray 90 degrees). Also worth noting that Broken Token makes an insert that does provide the extra room.
Is there any chance of a discount code to the Steam Version if we already own the complete set of the tabletop version with all the expansions? The price load is a bit steep if you want to have both.
We are not the publisher of the app, that’s Hidden Achievement, so we don’t have the ability to offer any discounts. You’d need to contact Hidden Achievement, but I believe they still have development costs to cover and all, so I don’t know how likely sales and discounts are any time soon. It is worth noting that the mobile app version is priced lower than the Steam version, due to the differences in those relative markets.
It’s worth noting that backers of the Kickstarter get the expansions for free, in case you are one; details found on the KS’s updates page.
Hi there, I got the game a few months ago and really enjoying it so far. I especially like the ability of playing single player on those occasions I cannot get a group together. A couple of clarifying questions on the rules:
1. In the final showdown phase, do the Clues or Foes text effects still apply to other cards after you solve/defeat them on a dice roll? For example, in “Proven Guilty”, if I solve “Who’s Behind the Fetches?” in Showdown, do I still get to add 2 hit points to the 3 monsters described on the card afterward?
2. In “Dead Beat”, can I solve “The Word of Kemmler” (which text’s says “Until Solved: Players cannot win the game”) in the Showdown phase, or does this have to be solved before showdown even begins?
1 – Yes, any side-effects from the book deck cards are still triggered in the Showdown. (This is why it’s important to carefully choose what order you resolve cards in during the Showdown; once you’ve rolled for a card, it’s done.)
2 – You HAVE to solve the Word in the Showdown to win if it’s not solved before the showdown, even if your score would let you win otherwise, but yes, it SHOULD be showdown-eligible. Things which can’t be addressed in the Showdown (I’m not sure those exist in the published expansions so far) should explicitly say as much.
Thanks for answering my questions so quickly, Fred, I appreciate it!
There were several in cannon Graphic Novels as well as the TV series. I think the Graphic Novels had a few new characters.
Hey just a question on the 1-player variant. It says to set it up the same as for the 3-player version, which says to have a 7-card hand, but then for the 1-player rules, it says 6 cards. Just making sure that wasn’t a typo.
Great game, I love it.
That’s correct for solo play (which is expected to be one of the most difficult modes). In solo play you have perfect information of what is in each character’s hand; in three-player, you don’t. So solo gets deducted one card per character.
Any plans for Ivy? We’ve got Kincaid but no Ivy.
Hey, big fan of everything to do with the dresden files here. Do you guys have a rough estimate as to how many players the mobile app versions have? I’d love to play coop online but the matchmaking system seems to take a while…
This game is one of the greatest board games I have ever played. It is in depth enough to feel like some kind of a challenge which satisfies the ‘up-myself’ element of my geek nature (“Snakes and ladders? Puh-lease! I only play ‘proper’ games!), whilst being simple enough to just ‘pick up and play’! I love the fact that I can get a game in in just half an hour. Means I can play often unlike some of the games I have from other publishers (I’m looking at you Fantasy Flight. Love your games, but SIX HOURS? Really?!)
The other element of Dresden that I love is that there are multiple expansions for it all available at a comfortably affordable price. Wonderful for a game fan on a budget!
I am also very pleased at the common aspects between this game and The Dresden Files Accelerated RPG. As a decades long RPG veteran and a Dresden fan, with a 12 year old daughter heading the same way, being able to run a Dresden RPG where game terms and ideas are already familiar is absolutely great. And then to find how affordable the game books are? Fantastic!
In short – thank you Evil Hat for the excellence of your products at reasonable prices. I have become a huge fan of your company in a very short space of time! I look forward to sinking my teeth into more of your products for several years to come.
Update: At 40+ games in, game is still unwinnable (I have two ties). Developer, please add a winnable game option. I d even take it as an IAP. $0.99 for Winnable Games. There just isn t enough Fate to win. Period. This reflects poor balancing and testing, which is unfortunate since this game has such potential. I am enjoying this game, but I m not sure why. I am a fan of the books, and I loved the short-lived series, so maybe that s it. I ve been playing over and over again on easy and I always lose. There just aren t enough cards to burn for fate to finish anything. That, and there appears to be too much luck involved. That could add to replay ability, but 9 out of 10 dice rolls go against me, so it s frustrating. Ok, removing one star. Any game should be winnable at some point. After more than 20 games I just can t win this game at easy. Way more frustrating than fun. When constructing a card or board game, one of the most tedious aspects is the testing for balance. This game needed way more testing before being released. This is a fantastic co-op card game that feels fun and true to the wonderful book series. This is a tough game so don’t plan to win all of the time of even most of the time. This game requires planning, thought, and a bit of luck to win. This is also a complex enough game that the play works better when you are playing with others instead of using the solitaire mode and trying to remember everything yourself. RECOMMENDATION: Would be nice to have a single buy option to get all expansions, instead of having to buy each individually.
I’ve put about 12 hours (collectively) into the DF Co-Op card game on PC and.. I haven’t won a single match, not one. No matter if I start at beginner with 13 cards and a bonus. Definitely need to rebalance the Fate Points I think, just not enough to complete a single case file.
I tend to win about one in three games. Make sure to check out the strategy guide at https://www.evilhat.com/home/dfcostrategyguidecontents/
I win almost 80% of my games, you have to read the rules and really plan your moves and stunts properly its meant to make you think this isn’t Monopoly or Clue lol. Any news on new expansions for Peace Talks and Battlegrounds?
We’re looking into it, but don’t have anything confirmed yet.
No news on those yet.
i am just wandering any news about the 2 new books (Peace Talks and Battle Ground) being add in as expansons
Working on it.
Excited about the “working on it”. But I have a feeling it will need to be wrapped in a big “spoiler” on the box
If the battlegrounds expansion isn’t riverwalk and toot as playable im going to be sad
You’ll be half sad (assuming you meant River Shoulders instead of River Walk). No Toot, but, a certain freshly minted Knight on the other hand…
Well that went from may e half sad to doublely happy. I was hoping someone else fot a deck rework since so much changed. I did mean shoulders not sure why I put down walk. I’ll just keep hoping for a toot deck in the future maybe he will grow another 6 inches and for 12 months we can get him and the red cap
