Dresden Files Cooperative Card Game
Play Harry Dresden and his friends as they take on the cases from the bestselling Dresden Files novels in the ultimate what-if scenario—what if Harry was on the scene with allies who weren’t there in the original story? The core game includes Harry, Murphy, Susan, Michael, and the Alphas and plays through the first five novels as well as Side Jobs, a random scenario generator based on the short story collection of the same name. Designs are already well underway for expansions featuring more series characters and more novels.

Any idea on when it will come to KS?
Hi Michael. Yes, we’re shooting for late April (possibly early May).
How do we pre-order this thang?
You back the Kickstarter after it launches in late April. 🙂
I am a noob when it comes to kickstarter…. can you explain how that works? I am really interested.
Kickstarter is a “Donation” with the possibility of a “Gift” back. For legal reasons, investing, and etc…
In reality, Kickstarter lets the publisher take pre-orders to get an idea of how much of a demand, they don’t have to take out as big of a loan/risk money. In return people who really like the project COULD get some insight or input into the process, a copy of something before it hit shelves first, bonus items that will only go to backers, and/or other things.
Also if there is not enough interest, the publisher can cancel it without having to pay to much.
Kickstarter is both good and bad., but with all that Evil Hat has done in the past https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/evilhat/created it is likely that they will get things out close to on time. If there is a big demand, they may even do a few things to make it better. Ex. Sending out proofs of the rules and cards to some people to double check or change things before it goes into production.
But as always a word of warning, there have been some annoying cases in the past of people taking the money and running, annoying long delays (looking at you Conan the Board Game)
Still with this Kickstarter, it should be good, just you will have to pay the money early ($39.99) and wait 3 to 6 months before getting the game (downside) but on the upside you might get special bonuses (Called stretch goals) if they make enough money, it may be cheaper then retail, and no tax, etc…
Is that any help?
Wade
Thanks Wade, I believe you just sold me on my first Kickstarter. Looking forward to playing this game.
I am very eager to play this game. This will also be my very first Kickstarter I will be getting involved with…
Wade has the gist of KS right, tho a few of the details don’t match up with the official version as far as how we’re configuring *this* one. But never fear, we’ll make it all clear on the campaign page once it’s launched.
Definitely interested in this game. Can’t wait.
Looking forward to this!
I can hardly wait. Since I heard about it, I have been working how to budget for it.
Reasons?
1. Dresden Files? check. I love the books but I am intrigued by the What if?
2. Cover? check.
3. Game for 1 person? check(I do not usually buy games)
I need this in my life right NOW!
We AGREE!
I really want to get in on this Kickstarter. Love Dresden Files, love the RPG books that have been made thus far.
The thing that is killing me, after looking over the Kickstarter preview page, is that not only would I have to back at normal retail price (which I’m willing to do!), but I’d ALSO have to pay an extra ten bucks for shipping on top of that. Which I wouldn’t have to do if I just waited for it to hit the stores. A lot of online sales offer free shipping on their products, etc.
I’m definitely getting the game at some point, I just don’t know if I’ll be backing the Kickstarter itself. Not unless there’s a significant reason for me to pay the 10 bucks in shipping that I wouldn’t have to pay once it hit the store shelves. I love supporting things early and showing my love for a product, but I hate having to pay MORE than I would after it went live in order to help the developers and publishers get the product out.
Still might back it anyway 🙂
Good luck with the Kickstarter!
That’s up to you! If you want to wait a full year to get a look at the game, skip access to the digital print & play files, and possibly other extras yet to be revealed (we’re still figuring out what’s possible there), it’s your call. Assuming we get enough funding to put the game into production at all, of course. We’ll never object to someone choosing to support their local game store. Maybe you can convince them to back at the retail level. 🙂
Hehe, you’re up late. Burning the midnight oil I see 🙂 I’m currently in China, so it’s still early afternoon here.
I’ll probably still end up backing it. Like I said, I do love to support the products I love, and I’ve loved pretty much everything you guys have made!
And yeah, any exclusives would certainly seal the deal 😉
Take it easy, and get some rest!!
This looks awesome, but can I get some assurance that the property is licensed from or authorized by Jim Butcher? (Sorry I work with copyright/trademark issues and I’m a little paranoid about it now.)
You can! This is fully licensed from Jim Butcher. The book art is fully licensed from Christian McGrath. This isn’t our first Dresden Files licensed work either; we publish the Dresden Files tabletop RPG (two books in 2010, a third in 2015). We’re working on a second RPG, Dresden Files Accelerated, aimed at folks who are looking for a lighter-weight system experience. And I’ve personally known Jim for 20 years and have run his official website since before Storm Front was published. So, our relationship is good here, and everything is quite kosher legally speaking.
Incidentally we already answered this on the project’s FAQ at the bottom of the campaign page. 😉
Fred, long time… Any chance that I will be able to pick this up at Gencon this year?
I have backed the international ménage a Bob level but I have not gotten the email saying my pledge was accepted. I have screenshot and email of my pledge
Sounds like something to refer to Kickstarter customer support. We don’t have any control over what the Kickstarter website does or doesn’t email or accept/confirm.
Your site lists the Kickstarter campaign as active, but that seems to be incorrect. Am I missing something on the Kickstarter page? Or did I miss out? Any way to pre-order the game through your site?
The campaign concluded 10 days ago. Thanks for letting us know about the un-updated sentence here on the site; it slipped our minds.
Due to the limited time offer nature of the Kickstarter, we won’t be offering buy-in for all the benefits that were available to folks who pledged during its 30-day window. Folks who missed the Kickstarter will be able to order a copy of the game in early 2017.
From a tax and licensing perspective it doesn’t make sense for us to take further preorders on the game until 2017, and those preorders won’t get the same benefits as the folks who made the game possible (i.e., backers) are getting.
If folks want a shot at getting those benefits still, their best bet is to convince someone who did back the Kickstarter — a retail store (we’ve got over 70) that backed or an individual — to upgrade for additional copies through their own pledge, in BackerKit, in a few months.
Wayne – Since it’s not shipping until 2017, no. 🙂
Hey guys! 🙂 How’s it coming along? Husband and I just stumbled across this today and are anxious to know when we can order a copy!
That’s been answered just a few short comments above this one. 🙂
Any way you can publish the list of over 70 retail stores that backed the Kickstarter? I just discovered the Dresden Files and would LOVE to get in on the action!
We need a window of time to collect that information first. 🙂 Will do within a few weeks, hopefully.
Any way to preorder/back for those who only just heard about the game?
Answered earlier in the comments, but here’s the spiel again:

Hi, is there any plan for a german translation or partnership with a german publisher like Heidelberger? Hopefully a non-nativ english-speaker 🙂
Nothing yet. We’re right now just trying to get the game put out in *one* language.
Will the game be available for people who just found out about the game after the pledging was closed?
This question was answered three comments prior to this one. 🙂
Where is Harry’s hat?
Harry doesn’t wear hats in the novels. At all.
Except when magicked on him in Changes while getting ready for the big battle from his fairy godmother (though he quickly took it off)
The only appropriate hat to see on Harry is a Burger King Crown.
I think Harry would passionately insist that’s a crown and NOT a hat! 🙂
And yes, Harry does not *consensually* wear a hat in the books ever. 🙂
I really wish that I had seen this while I could still back the kickstarter. Any word on how to order a copy for those poor souls among us that missed the campaign?
Nevermind. Just read back up and saw the info. Thanks!
Diamond distributors has a solicitation in the current Previews catalog, so maybe your locsl comic ir gaming store
What distributors are carrying this. I would love to carry this in my hand store.
No distributors are carrying this until the June 14th street date (but you can place preorders now). Our distributor list is extensive. Check http://www.evilhat.com/home/for-retailers for the details.
Played yesterday with a group consisting of two Dresden fans and someone who had never heard of the Dresden Files, but was an avid game player. We had a great time. Mechanics were intuitive, easy to teach and we have never had so much fun getting our asses kicked repeatedly. Can’t wait to introduce the game to more players and start the fun all over again.
