So excited about this one. Are you planning any supplements, miniatures, etc? Can I throw my wallet at you?
The graphic novel’s creators have asked for this to be a single volume, stand-alone RPG. That doesn’t rule out the possibility of doing additional support material, but it also means we’re not focused on that sort of stuff until we get the game out there.
What system is this using?
Fate!
Ya, makes sense. I just got confused because I read somewhere that there is a new Fate system coming out or something. Anyway, I am a long time fan of Robo, got all of the comics.
Shut up and take mah money!!! XD
Seriously get printing
A decent miniature in 28mm would open my wallet, too.
Less chatter, more writing! Extra espresso to you!
Plenty of writing and design and playtesting is going on as we speak. 🙂
Think a promo at PAX 2013 is in the cards?
Prime? Hell, I hope we have the game out by then. East? Not sure. 🙂
Any chance of a sneaky taster of a couple of Jenkins’ Aspects? ;P
“I Survived the Vampire Dimension.”
“Jenkins Doesn’t Sleep–He HOLDS BACK.”
One of his stunts is called Ex-SEAL Beret Delta. Would work great as the name of an aspect, too.
I know things are crazy-busy right now with all of the Fate Core and Fate Dice and stuff, but it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything official on progress with Atomic Robo. Any news?
We’re in the early stages of editing and layout right now. 🙂
Any chance of seeing some demos at Origins?
Is there going to be a Kickstarter to help pay for the launch of the Atomic Robo RPG?
We don’t have plans for one. There’s an outside chance it could happen, but we think we can launch it as a standard preorder just fine. 🙂
There had better be sword-chucks.
Atomic Robo is in editing and layout right now. I just saw a few snippets. They are gorgeous.
So is this gonna be Fate Core or Fate Accelerated? Also, any word on if this will be out before my Atomic Robo Fate Dice get to me? 😉
It’s got the depth of Core and the speed of Accelerated. It’s kinda crazy. 🙂 Not sure about the respective timelines, but they should be close-ish. 🙂
Will there be a preorder?
Almost certainly.
So how different from FATE Core/Accelerated will this system be? I’m wanting to start up a super-hero RPG, and have already backed the FATE Core Kickstarter (and the dice!), so am I cool, or is this different enough that I should pick it up and go with it?
It has the speed of Fate Accelerated, the depth of Fate Core, and a few new mechanical widgets that make it a worthy game in its own right. Ask around on forums for the opinions of the many folks who’ve playtested it!
ARRPG is made with Atomic Robo in mind, not supers. I realize that there’s a fair bit of superheroics in Atomic Robo, but I wouldn’t say it’s engineered do supers in general the same way, for example, Marvel Heroic is, or Mutants & Masterminds, or Champions.
But! You can run a perfectly good supers game out of the box with Fate Core, so I say get it going ASAP and see what you might want to incorporate from ARRPG when you can get your hands on it. And then tell me how it goes.
Coolness. Thanks for the answers! I do have FATE Core (via backing the Kickstarter), and have been leaning towards it for the upcoming game. I’ll keep you all in the loop!
Can’t you use some Tesladyne technology to get this rpg game out NOW?! Come on, get Jenkings on it or something, the fate of the world depends on what little sanity this game will bring to the Edisonian machinations we all currently struggle under!
Save us with Science!
Layout is happening now!
Can we see some examples of characters? Or combat ? Something????
The place for that is really my blog, Spirit of the Blank. If you’re not familiar with it… well, it’s pretty much the main source of info on ARRPG’s development.
Here’s a post with some characters: http://spiritoftheblank.blogspot.com/2012/11/atomic-robo-invaders-from-mars.html
And here’s another with some other characters: http://spiritoftheblank.blogspot.com/2013/07/atomic-robo-various-updates.html
And here’s every post with the “Atomic Robo” tag: http://spiritoftheblank.blogspot.com/search/label/Atomic%20Robo
As for what combat looks like… do you have Fate Core? Because ARRPG is a Fate Core game, so conflicts are run just like they are in Fate Core.
Hello, Atomic Robo appear to be a great game as I love Fate and Fate Core accelereted and also Spirit of the century I looked forward to.
Have a clear idea of its release date?
And congratulations for this game hoping to read it soon!
It’s in the layout process now. We’re not sure when that will conclude. Once it does, we’ll need to do final proofing and get an index made. Once that’s in, we can take it to press. Press will take 6 weeks-ish. Once we can fill in the variables implicit in all that we’ll be able to state a clear release date.
Not to nag, but I’m still excited for this game. Can anyone give an update? How’s layout progressing?
Got stalled for a bit due to job and life issues, but we’ve gotten Adam Jury on board to wrap up the layout now. It’s looking like a few months more, though.
Hello,
do you have a date to start selling Atomic Robo?
We do not! But things are looking good for early-ish 2014. We’ve gotten the layout back on track after some stumbles.
Can’t wait for this. From little I’ve seen, it looks like a LOT of fun.
Thanks! I’m hoping to preview some more stuff on Spirit of the Blank soon. Keep watching the skies! Er, blog!
Hurry up, we wont be able to sleep til this is released =P
Look, I’m sorry to do this, I don’t like being the one that tells you, but you DO realise that every day you delay release of Atomic Robo RPG science suffers right? It’s like you’re failing at Christmas but like EVERY DAY. And think of the research ok? Just think of the research. And the children. And science. I think I have made my point right? You really should just not sleep or eat or anything really until this is done. For science! And the children! And the research! Go now. Go back to work and bring forth Atomic Robo, the RPG!
Just out of curiosity, will the book be letter-sized (i.e. 8.5″ x 11″), or digest-sized like Fate Core, or graphic novel-sized to match the TPBs?
