Fate is Evil Hat’s multi-award-winning in-house RPG based on the well-known Fudge system from Grey Ghost Games — though you don’t need that system to play. Fate is Fudge like you’ve never seen it before — where the focus is on the story more than the system, and the rules make the characters most capable when the drama is highest and it really matters.Innovative, exciting, and free, Fate has fast become a system of choice among RPG gamers. Like Fudge, Fate is available for free online, and has been released under the Open Gaming License.

Evil Hat has released the first version of Fate 3.0 in the form of Spirit of the Century, and is . currently working The Dresden Files RPG (details above). Both feature major revisions to the system, and will lead to a release of a revised core rule-set, which we hope to provide — free as always — once the Dresden Files RPG is completed.

    Hi,
I think the link to the FATE 2.0 site is broken. Let me know if it has changed as want to mention it in my “Gulliver’s Trading Company” rpg.

Hm. The link is correct, but the site is not functioning for reasons unclear to me.

If you link to THIS page as a part of Evil Hat, you should be safe for the future, though.

Hi, I’m new to the FATE system and it was recommended I come on over to the Evil Hat website to look for joining the maillist and hopefully other aides and support in figuring out FATE for the first time. Any recommendations for starting FATE noobs (though not anywhere near new to roleplaying) esp. compels, tags, and all them new mechanics? (I’m coming in via Diaspora and looking forward to Dresden)

Hey, Cliff. As was recommended, the place to look is the FateRPG mailing list: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/FateRPG

I’m wanting to know when the FATE 3.0 revised core rule-set will be released? I don’t want to have to print out the 2.0 if the 3.0 is going to be soon.

    Hi John,

It’ll probably be at least until the end of the year, if not longer. We won’t be getting started on the project until after June. In the meantime, you should check out the Spirit of the Century SRD over at http://www.faterpg.com
