The world is getting weirder. Darker every single day. Things are spinning around faster and faster, and threatening to go completely awry. Falcons and falconers. The center cannot hold.

Enter the world of best-selling author Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files, where the creatures of the NeverNever lurk around every corner, prowl through every shadow. Only the determination, faith, and hope of mortal kind is able to stand against the rising darkness — be they supernatural cops, wizards, werewolves, changelings, or just plain ordinary joes.

The Dresden Files RPG is coming. Are you ready? Coming Soon.

diddnt anyone else think that dresden files was like something out of WOD (world of darkness) !??!

but saying that its sooo good to see a company do an rpg based on the series… was a superb series and i will be looking at getting this game at some point in the future! :D

Essentially, aren’t all supernatural/horror games like WoD or Chill or Bloodshadows (jump into the wayback machine for that one). I think that with Supernatural (Margaret Weiss), World of Darkness (White Wolf), OGL Horror (unknown), etc., you “can” play the same games. The reason I purchase a title specific game is for art, fluff, and inspiration. Cannot wait to see this. Hopefully, there will be something at GenCon. Ciao,

I have never read any of Mr. Butchers novels, but I have seen the cable network show of the same name. If the show is any indication of greatness plus what Evil Hat can do it’s sure to be a great game!

Really looking forward to picking up a copy of this!

I’m a huge fan of the Dresdenverse and jonesing for a new RPG to sink my teeth into. I’ve played a little Spirit, and I’m really excited about the possibilities of the Dresden RPG.

  6. Justin, October 26, 2008:

to say that the sci-fi channel ‘butchered’ the series doesn’t quite do it justice because most similarities between the dresden files novels and the series were non-existent. I believe that if the novels followed the series more closely, then perhaps the series would still be in existance. I can’t wait to see how you guys do turning dresden into an mmorpg. I will gladly participate in any testing you have to offer.

Hey. Is the world this RPG is set in the world of the books, or the TV series?

  8. admin, November 3, 2008:

    The books.

  9. frank, November 10, 2008:

I found Dresden and Anita Blake both to be somewhat indicative of WoD. And on a flip side, the New Wod, even more derivative of those series(as if a beautiful symbiosis where arising).
Those things said, for the Dresden Files I find that the Witchcraft game by Eden Studios can very closely reflect the setting with some minor tweaking.
That said I hope this game is an even better reflection.
I also hope for an in depth game mechanic for emotions powering magic. maybe with a spell point system, that allows you to regain spell points during heightened emotional states.

I am really looking forward to this release. I’m currently spit-balling rules using the Unisystem (got a great deal on the Buffy and Angel RPG books), but once this is released I will drop whatever I have assembled for the genuine article. Am currently reading Proven Guilty and am loving it as I have the others.

Awesome, I’ve been waiting for my favorite books to be made into an RPG. I read the ad in the back of Spirit of the Century it was supposed to come out 2006, but good things stay in production.

i have happily devoured every Dresden novel to date. i love the gritty alternate universes like Anita Blake, Merideth Gentry, and Harry Dresden, as well as the older one from P N Elrod. the idea of magic and fantasy mixing with modern times rocks on so many levels. i signed up for playtesting this RPG over a year ago, but sadly have not gotten an invite yet. i was incensed when they canceled the Dresden Files Sci-Fi show, even though it was merely a pale shadow compared to the books. there were some things i did not like about the show. i mean, what self-respecting Wizard of the White Council uses a hockey stick and a drumstick for magical foci? that being said, i do have the boxed set, and am still VERY much looking forward to this game.

I am looking forward to this as this ties my RPG fascination with my Dresden Files fascination.

How did you guys end up getting the copyright issue settled? I can’t wait to see this, woot!

  15. admin, June 20, 2009:

    What copyright issue?

  16. LiquidWeird, July 3, 2009:

There’s no copyright issue because Fred Hicks and Jim Butcher are old friends. And Jim Butcher is a gamer, so when he wanted an RPG for Dresdenverse, Fred Hicks was right there ready to go. Or at least, that’s my basic understanding.

  17. Jonathan, July 7, 2009:

I want this game for the background material, currently we are playing a Dresden Files game using McWoD. Im sure that EH will do an excellent job on putting together a comprehensive game, if the blog is any indication of the way things are going to be. (oh, as an aside to an earlier poster OGL Horror is Mongoose Publishing).

Couple months have passed – any updates on the release? Anxiously waiting…

  19. admin, December 3, 2009:

We have a sort-of release date target as of this past Halloween: http://www.dresdenfilesrpg.com/2009/10/31/happy-birthday-harry-we-have-a-target/

  20. EvilJim, February 15, 2010:

I’m not going to have the time off to go to Origins but I’ll be sending the cash with a friend of mine to pick the Dresden RPG books up for me. I love the FATE system and I can’t wait to play this game!

  21. Alymon, March 31, 2010:

If we can’t make the release event, any idea what retailers will carry it and when? Will it be available to order online?

  22. fred, March 31, 2010:

We’ve been answering that a lot over on the http://www.dresdenfilesrpg.com website, Alymon. We’ll be distributed by Indie Press Revolution and by Alliance/Diamond and by Esdevium, so retailers that order from those sources will be able to get the books into their stores. We absolutely will be providing a preorder for the game as well through our web-store that will include the PDF content at no additional cost.

  23. Mojo, April 20, 2010:

Im a huge fan of dresden and have read most of the books (up to book 8). I had the pleasure of meeting Jim Butcher at SDCC last year, he was gracious to sign some of my comics. I will definitely pick this up, not to play per se (Im still a die hard nWOD gamer), but to mine for ideas for my current games.

    Looking forward to the hardcovers!

  24. Brick, June 24, 2010:

Just got my hands on the actual hard-copy product, and I have to say I’m very impressed. It is obvious that a lot of thought and care went into each element of the production. Thanks for putting together a fitting response to Butcher’s excellent work. I can’t wait to assemble my friends into a regular game night and get down to business! Kudos to everyone at Evil Hat.
